Nissan to develop Qashqai+2 in Sunderland
Japanese automobile manufacturing company Nissan is to produce the follow-up vehicle to its successful Qashqai model in Sunderland, the company has announced.According to the firm, the Qashqai+2 car will be the fifth new machine put together at the Tyne and Wear site in the last five years.
The company added that some 850 new posts were created over the course of June in order to deal with the extra workload production will dictate.
Senior vice-president for Nissan manufacture in Europe Trevor Mann is hoping that the model surpasses the "unprecedented" success of the original.
Mr Mann remarked: "This level of volume will contribute to another record production year at our Sunderland plant with an estimated 450,000 vehicles coming off the line."
The original Nissan Qashqai was released in 2007 and underwent production in Washington and Sunderland as well as domestically in Fukuoka, Japan.
