Nissan launches green study

Motorists may be able to reduce their carbon footprint and save money as the result of a new Nissan project.

The manufacturer is starting an eight-month study of UK drivers that utilises advanced vehicle telematics, mobile phone technology and satnav systems to analyse behaviour behind the wheel and suggest ways of improving fuel economy.

Senior vice-president Minoru Shinohara explained: "Nissan is taking a holistic approach towards sustainable mobility."

He added: "Reducing CO2 by making our vehicles more efficient is just one element – equally significant are the people behind the wheel."

A similar project in Japan helped motorists cut their fuel consumption by an average of 18 per cent.

While participants will be able to see real-time updates on how economically they are driving on their vehicle's satnav, additional information will be sent to the company's Global Data Centre so it can be analysed.

In other news, the Nissan Qashqai recently secured 11th place in the JD Power Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study.
