Nissan hits 15 millionth vehicle at plant
A manufacturing plant operated by Japanese automobile firm Nissan has seen its 15 millionth vehicle roll off the production line. The Oppama site hits the milestone 46 years after opening and 19 years since hitting the five million mark.
By 1992, the plant had produced ten million vehicles and is now said to handle 80,000 vehicle shipments every month.
The "collective efforts of our employees, suppliers and local business partners" have been a factor in the site reaching such a milestone, commented Nissan executive vice president Hidetoshi Imazu.
"At Oppama Plant, we continually endeavour to meet the goals of our Oppama Challenge - to deliver higher quality vehicles to customers on scheduled delivery times," said the official.
This comes as reports suggest that Nissan is holding talks with automobile manufacturer Chrysler with a view to producing a new vehicle for the company.
