New recycling technology to help Nissan save water
Car manufacturer Nissan is doing its bit for the environment by installing a new water recycling system in its paint shop in Barcelona.It is estimated that the new system will help Nissan save 21.6 million litres of water during the vehicle painting process this year.
Instead of being sent straight to the sewage system for purification, water used to wash car bodies after they have been painted white will now be filtered on site and re-used.
The initiative comes as part of the Nissan Green Programme 2010, which aims to reduce the car manufacturer's impact on the environment.
Nissan says its plants in the UK and Spain producing light commercial vehicles and passenger cars have already achieved a recycling rate of more than 90 per cent.
The Barcelona plant is one of three owned by Nissan in Spain where the manufacturer builds models such as Pathfinder 4x4s, Cabstar light trucks and Primastar vans.
Car insurance customers who follow Nissan's example and reduce their own environmental impact by driving greener cars could find cheaper quotes.
