The MINI remains the best buy for drivers concerned about the residual value of their car, a new survey has found.
Contract hire company Lex has compiled a list of the top 20 mass market cars based on an estimate of the percentage of their new cost they will be worth in three years time.
After finishing top of the 2006 chart, the MINI has retained its number one spot after Lex calculated it will preserve 54 per cent of its value.
Steve Jones, pricing manager for Lex, explained that "style, exclusivity and reliability" are the factors that determine the popularity of a used car.
"Those used buyers who can't afford a new MINI … may well be able to stretch to a used one in two or three years time so they will be in high demand," he added.
North Carolina-based Hybrid Technologies recently announced that it plans to begin production of a battery-powered MINI Cooper.
