MINI Clubman set for November launch

MINI has confirmed that its new Clubman model will be released in the UK in November.

The company has made fans of the sixties classic MINI Traveller wait for the modern version, as the concept car was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2005.

In the intervening period, the designers have come up with a five-door car that is 240mm longer that the conventional MINI hatchback, meaning there is much more legroom in the rear seats and space in the boot.

It will come with a choice of 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines, the latter of which is said to achieve 68.9 mpg, together with BMW's environmentally friendly brake energy regeneration and stop-start functions.

The modern approach of the new Clubman means there is no place for the Traveller's trademark wooden side-boards, but a BBMW spokesman told the Daily Mail that the sprit of the earlier model lives on in its long-awaited replacement.

He said: "This is the 21st century version of a classic car that made its debut in 1960."

The MINI Clubman will cost from £14,235 to £17,210 when it reaches the showrooms in November.

A recent survey by contract hire company Lex found that MINI is the best performing popular car in the second hand market, retaining 54 per cent of its value after three years.
