Mini describes milestone as "wonderful"
Mini has described watching the 1.5-millionth car come off the production line at Oxford as "wonderful".The manufacturer achieved the feat in the same year the vehicle celebrates its half century.
Spokesman Ian Robertson commented: "This is a great day for the plant and a wonderful milestone to reach in the 50th birthday year of Mini."
He added the company is managing to get through the economic downturn as a result of the brand's resilience and huge customer appeal.
Mr Robertson revealed the group had plans to release more models in the next few years and expressed optimism for the future.
Since 1959, some 6.8 million Minis have been built.
Business minister Ian Lucas said the car has been a symbol of British engineering and design for the duration of that period.
Earlier this year, the group announced a new addition to its range - the special edition Mini Graphite.
