Messy motors 'are dangerous'
Drivers who have recently bought a spic and span new auto from their local Mazda or Mini car dealership may be well advised to try and keep it as tidy as possible.According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), a messy vehicle can be dangerous.
It explained if an item of rubbish - such as an empty can of pop - is discarded onto the floor, it could end up getting stuck under the brake pedal and causing a collision.
Chief examiner Peter Rodger said: "A tidy and clean car reduces stress for all the passengers and so reduces the potential for in-car distractions."
Motorists were issued with this advice in light of a new campaign from the Highways Agency, encouraging drivers to dispose of rubbish sensibly.
The government department said discarding litter out of auto windows is highly irresponsible, as people have to risk their lives to pick it up and it could also prove dangerous for other road users.
In related news, IAM recently claimed the government faces a significant challenge in trying to make Britain's highways and byways the safest in the world.
