Drivers urged to get under the bonnet

Motorists who have spent months saving for any make of car from a Mazda to a Mini may end up putting their investment at risk if they do not get under the bonnet every now and then, it has been suggested.

Automobile care expert Comma issued this warning after conducting a poll that found 17 per cent of vehicle owners in the UK have never checked their oil.

In addition to this, the survey revealed one in 20 drivers is unsure how they can tell if their engine has enough of this vital fluid.

Comma pointed out failing to keep oil topped up can result in severe mechanical problems, adding the typical cost of getting an engine fixed is currently £1,413.

Sales and marketing director Mike Bewsey said with increasing numbers of motorists tightening their belts, straightforward maintenance is essential.

"If you're going to risk extending the time between services, you need to at least do the basic things, like making sure your oil is topped up." He stated.

Mazda and Mini owners who are concerned about how their vehicles are running may benefit from paying a visit to their local dealership.
