Deteriorating roads may worry UK drivers

Drivers who have recently paid a visit to retail outlet - such as a Mazda or Mini car dealership - and bought a new motor may be concerned by the comments of one vehicle repair company.

Auto Windscreens has claimed the deteriorating state of Britain's roads has led to more cases of windshield damage over recent months.

During July and August, the firm saw demand for its services rise up to 16 per cent at times, compared to the same period last year.

The company suggested this is partly because a significant number of motorists have been using their cars more frequently this summer after sacrificing overseas trips in order to reduce outgoings.

However, it also highlighted the £1 billion deficit in road maintenance funding.

Sales and marketing director Nigel Davies said: "Motorists who have chosen to save money and holiday at home this year are paying the price for that shortfall".

Previously, Auto Windscreens revealed one of its customers reported her windscreen wipers had stopped working and on investigating the problem a technician found a pair of knickers used to wipe the windshield had got tangled up in the blades.
