MG owners welcome return to UK

MG owners have been celebrating the return of the sports car brand to the UK.

Members of the MG Owners' Club (MGOC) turned out in force at the Longbridge car plant in Birmingham to mark the commencement of pre-production.

They will be the first MGs to be built in the city since the Nanjing Automobile Company (NAC) bought the marque in 2005.

It marks the culmination of a sustained campaign by the MGOC to resurrect the brand - for the last two years, members have been giving advice to Chinese engineers in a bid to ensure the new MGs remains true to their British roots.

Meanwhile, Mike Whitby, leader of Birmingham city council, said that it too had been working in "close collaboration" with NAC to return MG to Longbridge.

"Longbridge is part of the fabric of Birmingham's heritage and we are delighted that MGs will roll off the production line once again," he proclaimed.

Earlier this month, Auto Express claimed that the TF would be the first new MG car to be sold in the UK.

The report added that the model would come with a price tag of £16,000.
