Mazda2 three-door makes debut

The new three-door Mazda2 is set to make a splash in the small car market with its debut this month, the car manufacturer has said.

Mazda said the new model comes with all the same technology and features as the five-door version which was introduced last September.

It has a top speed of 117mph and can reach 62mph in 10.4 seconds. Mazda also claims that the Mazda2 offers "excellent" fuel economy and low exhaust emissions.

Reviewing the Mazda2 for the Times, motoring expert Jeremy Clarkson branded the vehicle "excellent".

He praised its low car insurance group (four), price tag and "rather cheeky looks", adding that because it is a Mazda, it is "likely to be reliable".

Commenting on what he referred to as higher than anticipated demand for the Mazda2 five-door, Mazda UK marketing director Mark Cameron said "the arrival of the new three-door model … will accelerate sales to a much higher level".

Mazda currently enjoys a 2.4 per cent share of the small car market, after nearly 7,000 people purchased a Mazda2.
