Mazda experiences its second best sales year

Mazda recorded its second best sales year in the UK in 2008, despite the tricky trading conditions experienced by the industry as a whole, it has revealed.

The manufacturer explained it had also achieved its highest ever market share in the country.

In addition to this, during December the marque overtook Nissan to become the third highest-selling Japanese carmaker after Honda and Toyota.

The final month of the year saw its sales rise by eight per cent compared with the same four-week period in 2007.

Meanwhile, overall registrations for 2008 were down two per cent on the record-high set during the previous 12 months.

Commenting on the figures, Mark Cameron, sales director at the manufacturer, said: "To get to two per cent in a market that was down 21 per cent is an achievement of which we can be very proud."

In other news, the expanded 26-strong Mazda6 range went on sale across the UK this January.
