Mazda has announced it is to begin leasing the new RX-8 fuel cell-powered car at the beginning of next year, introducing innovative technology to utilise hydrogen and petrol.
The award-winning RX-8 is ready to set new standards for the sports car market, thanks to its specially developed RENESIS rotary engine.
The high-spec RENESIS engine is uncommonly compact, allowing a low centre of gravity to give the car perfect 50-50 weight distribution – meaning more agility and responsiveness.
It will now also make use of duel-fuel technology to utilise both petrol and hydrogen, injecting hydrogen into the engine directly using an onboard electronic control unit.
The RENESIS engine in the RX-8 produces the thrilling drive of a classic sports car, with the high-specification engine producing 231bhp and the standard engine producing 192bhp.
However, this sleek sports car is not just about screeching tyres and high speeds, it has many practical features too.
Mazda's RX-8 has a rear-door opening angle to reduce the effort of opening the door for passengers, whilst the absence of central pillars in the car also allows for a spacious loading area, meaning luggage can be easily loaded onto the back seat.
In all, the practical yet sexy and environmentally sound new RX-8 version is single-handedly turning over a new leaf for the sports car industry in 2006.
