Mazda MX-5 wins drop-top award

The third-generation Mazda MX-5 has received recognition as the best drop-top roadster from a panel of automotive reviewers.

Voted for by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW), the Scottish Car of the Year ceremony handed out awards in eight separate categories.

And the Mazda MX-5 came out a winner in the best drop-top category, underlining its sporty credentials, reports Easier.

Commenting on the reasons behind the award, ASMW's president Stephen Park said: The Mazda MX-5's combination of style, quality and driving experience outperforms many motors costing twice as much.

"The third-generation MX-5 is indeed a worthy winner."

It is thought that the new MX-5 could prove to be particularly popular among British drivers as a result of the nation's unpredictable weather.

According to its makers, the model boasts the fastest retractable hardtop in the automotive world.

Going from top-down to top-up in approximately 12 seconds, the MX-5 should help to shield motorists from any unexpected downpours, while simultaneously letting them take advantage of fleeting bursts of sunshine.
