Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe praised

The retractable hardtop of the Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe has received fresh praise from an automotive reviewer.

By flicking a switch mounted on the main console, motorists can manually raise or lower the hardtop roof, which the Japanese automaker claims is the fastest of its kind in the world.

Powered by four electric motorists, the roof can move from top-up to top-down in 12 seconds making it perfect for changeable British weather conditions.

Neil Lyndon, writing for the Daily Telegraph, has pointed out the "cleverness" of the new roof while testing out the vehicle.

"Adding only 37 kg to the MX-5's overall weight, the folding roof takes nothing away from the car's useful boot-space because it stows into its own compartment," he said.

"Neither does it signally alter the shape of the car."

Mazda sells a range of performance-orientated cars, including the 2-series, the 3-series, the 5-series, the 6-series and the RX-8 model.
