Mazda6 'helps automaker reach record sales in 2006'

Mazda has announced it has grown faster than any other UK car brand in the last five years – thanks in part to the popularity of its Mazda6 range.

The automaker said that it has increased its annual sales by 250 per cent since 2001, when the Mazda brand first took over the business.

And Mazda's managing director Rob Lindley said that the firm passed "significant milestones" during 2006.

"The Mazda Corporation has completely renewed its product line-up and kick-started the change in perception of the brand with the hugely popular Mazda6," he commented.

"That model bore no comparison to the worthy but not very well known Mazda 626 and marked the beginning of a new era."

Coming in three different styles, the Mazda6 also boasts a number of special editions and low-emission engines.

It was first launched in 2002 and was the first so-called Zoom-Zoom vehicle launched in Mazda car dealerships.
