The popularity of the 5-series has helped Mazda increase profits by almost a half, it has been revealed.
Mazda recorded net profits of 14.9 billion yen (£60 million) in the three months to the end of December 2006.
To put this into context, comparable profits in the final quarter of 2005 stood at 10.2 billion yen.
And it is thought that strong demand for the diesel Mazda5 and Mazda6 in Europe has helped to boost the Japanese manufacturer's overall sales.
David Friedman, chief financial officer of Mazda, welcomed the results.
"Mazda's financial results for the first nine months of fiscal 2006 reflect progress despite challenging business conditions," he said.
Last month, the Japanese car maker claimed that it had grown more rapidly than any other car brand operating in the UK market over the last five years.
Annual sales between 2001 and 2006 apparently increased by approximately 250 per cent as more and more motorists put their trust in the Mazda marque.
