A new review has praised the Mazdaspeed 3, the racing variant of the Mazda 3, for its sporty characteristics.
The vehicle can even beat the Mazdaspeed 6 for pace, according to Automobile Mag, leading reviewer Don Sherman to suggest that the new offering from the Japanese manufacturer is "the hottest sport compact to roll this year".
Mr Sherman also reveals that the new model, which was built by Mazda engineers in the US before being sent to Japan for further tweaking, was not meant to be so quick when designers first began work.
Featuring a top speed of 150 mph and a more precise fuel-to-cylinder transaction, it is thought that the car may particularly appeal to motorists looking for a racy drive.
The Japanese carmaker began producing its first four-wheel car - the Mazda R360 - in 1960.
However, the company has since progressed to selling a wide range of pacy cars such as the MX-5 Roadster Coupe and the RX-8, which are both currently available from Mazda car dealerships.
