New Mazda3 'can help motorists cut fuel bill'

Drivers looking for a fuel-efficient motor may want to pay a visit to their local Mazda dealership.

The manufacturer has revealed buyers can now opt for a Mazda3 that features its Smart Idling Stop System – also known as i-stop.

It suggested anyone choosing this vehicle is likely to see the cost of their fuel bill drop.

The company explained the model allows owners to extend the distance they can cover between trips to the pump because the i-stop system means the engine automatically switches off when the car comes to a standstill or is moving at under two mph.

As soon as the person at the wheel presses down the clutch, the auto then restarts.

Fleet and remarketing director Peter Allibon said: "The all-new Mazda3 2.0 Sport with our exciting i-stop technology uniquely delivers both performance and cost savings to fleets, company car and individual drivers."

In other news, the Mazda2 was the seventh best-selling auto in Scotland during April.
