Mazda 3 set for limited-edition Mazdaspeed redesign
Fans of the Mazda 3 have been alerted to news that the vehicle is set to be revamped as a high-speed racer to be sold under the Mazdaspeed brand.The 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 will be a limited-edition reworking of the Mazda 3 five-door hatchback and will be built around a new turbocharged 2.3-litre engine.
Consequently, it will be capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in approximately six seconds flat.
The new model will also feature external changes to the standard Mazda 3 design; an expanded front air intake, performance tyres and flared fenders are among the sporty additions.
Previewing the vehicle, automotive analyst Christian Wardlow said: "If Mazda can keep the price tag within reach of the competition, the 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 will be one of the most compelling enthusiast bargains on the market.
"And, with its five-door hatchback design, among the most useful as well."
Currently, the standard Mazda 3 model is available in two separate body styles dependent upon personal preference.
Drivers can choose between the 5-door hatchback or the larger and more expensive 4-door saloon.
