Despite poor September sales results in the car industry as a whole, Mazda has claimed it has bucked the trend.
Overall, new car sales fell 21.2 per cent last month, compared with the same period last year.
However, Mazda stated it has increased its share of the retail market from 2.3 per cent in September 2007 to 3.1 per cent 12 months later.
According to the manufacturer, the fact it sold 9,506 cars last month was not a blip.
Managing director Jeremy Thomson said: "To support our dealer network, we have put increased emphasis on the retail channel and sales to local fleets."
He added: "It's the right balance for the business especially now."
Mr Thomson also stated the Mazda2 had helped sales, as it was "the right car at the right time".
In other news, the manufacturer has announced the all-new Mazda3 is to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19th.
