Mazda recorded its best monthly sales over September, the company has announced.
Selling some 9,770 units, the Japanese automaker commented that the new Mazda2 model was a large part in its success.
Both environmentally-sound and small, the model is ideal for a number of drivers, according to sales director Jeremy Thomson.
"The lightweight strategy with its benefits of improved CO2 emissions and better fuel consumption arrived at a time when other cars in the sector are getting larger and heavier," he said.
Consumers seem to agree, as Mazda sold 1,319 Mazda2s during the month, resulting in the firm hailing it as "the right car at the right time".
It added that 60 per cent of the cars sold were the latest version.
Meanwhile, Mazda has announced that it will be unveiling its all-new Mazda6 vehicle, which also goes by the name Atenza, at this month's Tokyo Motor Show.
