Mazda2 production begins

Motorists may be interested to learn that production of the new Mazda 2-series has formally started.

Assembly of the new family car has begun in Hiroshima, Japan, following its world premiere at the Geneva motor show in March 2007.

Among the standout features of the new model, it is approximately 100 kg lighter than the model it replaces, meaning the Mazda2 is a more frugal drive than ever before.

Robert J Graziano, executive vice president at the Japanese automaker, has taken the opportunity to outline his faith in the car's prospects.

"I am convinced that the all-new Mazda2 will capture the hearts of our customers," he said.

"The new Mazda2 offers an exhilarating driving experience that is the soul of Zoom-Zoom."

Earlier this month, motoring information service CAP Motor Research reported on the residual value of the Mazda RX-8.

According to its study, buyers of a new RX-8 can expect to receive approximately 39 per cent of the vehicle's original sale price after three years or 60,000 miles.
