Big things predicted for "stylish" new Mazda2

An automotive journalist has predicted that the revamped Mazda2 could make a big impression when it is finally launched in the UK.

Although the model will not make its world debut until the Geneva motor show in March 2007, industry commentator Sam Hardy has already given motorists an idea of what they can expect from the "stylish supermini" in Auto Express.

In terms of equipment, for example, Mr Hardy points out that many models in the new range will feature air conditioning and a CD player with MP3 connectivity as standard.

Moreover, he has indicated that the model's "rakish shape" could also turn a few heads.

"Key styling details include a bold yet simple front end with narrow headlights, flat surfaces and a gaping lower air intake framed by twin spotlights," he explained.

"Neat angular taillights complete its appearance."

Earlier this month, Mazda announced that it had made record profits of 14.9 billion yen (£60 million) in the financial quarter ending December 2006.
