Land Rover LR3 wins new award

Land Rover has announced that its LR3 model has won the Auto Express New Car Honour award in the 4x4 Off-Roader category for the second year running.

The firm's premium family SUV beat off stiff competition from the likes of the Volvo XC90 and the Audi Q7 on the strength of its on and off-road performance, combined with its impressive offering of technology.

Featuring Terrain Response, Electronic Traction Control and Hill Descent Control, the LR3 has been desribed as "unbeatable" off-road.

David Johns, Auto Express editor-in-chief, said: "Whether towing, mountain climbing, family carrying or simply taking the sting out of the daily commute, Land Rover's new LR3 never fails to impress us.

"Champion for the second year in a row, the big Brit has an unmatched range of abilities that sets it apart from every other car in the class."

Two new variants of the LR3 are now available, both of which are capable of delivering outstanding on and off-road performance.

One of these is the powerful 4.4 litre 300 bhp petrol V8, while new 4.0 litre petrol V6 is recognised as class-leading.

Meanwhile Land Rover said the addition of a new engine variant for the LR3 range has widened consumer choice.

Andy Gawthorpe, managing director, Land Rover Middle East and North Africa, commented: "It's fantastic that the LR3 has proved yet again its versatility and staying-power in an increasingly competitive sector, with this, its 77th award from experts from around the world."
