Media reports point to success for new Land Rover Freelander
A business analyst has pointed to recent automotive successes under the Land Rover brand as evidence that its latest model will do well. This week saw production start on the Land Rover Freelander 2 at a factory in Merseyside, which is the first model to be designed and built entirely by Ford since it took over the company.
Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live's Wake Up To Money programme, Dr David Bailey from the Birmingham Business School described initial signs for the sports utility vehicle as "positive".
"It hasn't been tested properly by the reviewers yet, but it looks good and certainly the recent products that Land Rover have brought out - the Range Rover Sport and the Discovery - have done very well," he said.
Meanwhile, Land Rover Ireland's managing director David Harpur explained the concept behind the Freelander 2 at the start of this week.
Mr Harpur said that the model aims to combine the luxuries associated with a top car brand with the strength and durability of a 4x4.
