Land Rover sets September sales record

A successful sales month has seen British automaker Land Rover set records.

The firm has enjoyed its best period in 714 months, recording figures for September up by 34 per cent on the year previous.

The Warwickshire-based firm sold 25,993 cars throughout the course of the month, with its Freelander 2 4x4 proving particularly popular.

Overseas, the company managed to increase sales by 249 per cent and 105 per cent in emerging markets China and Russia.

Speaking on behalf of the company, managing director Phil Popham called the result a "great achievement".

He commented: "It's always satisfying to break past records. We can now approach our 60th anniversary next year with confidence. I want to see the business move forwards responsibly, profitably and in a sustainable manner."

Earlier this month, Land Rover stated that it will be reducing the carbon emissions of its vehicles by 20 per cent by 2012.
