Land Rover's Range Rover Sport sees demand grow by 52%
UK sales of Land Rover's Range Rover Sport increased by more than a half last year, according to the latest figures, in news that underlines the popularity of the off-roader among motorists.According to the British automotive brand, demand for the model saw a year-on-year increase of 52 per cent.
It means that the Range Rover Sport has now become the off-road specialist's top-selling model, with more than 75,000 motorists taking the plunge since it was originally launched.
In the bigger picture, the automaker also posted a global sales total of 192,500 vehicles, which represents an extra 8,500 sales on top of 2005 figures.
"This is a fantastic achievement," commented Phil Popham, global managing director of Land Rover.
"We need to maintain this momentum in 2007 and continue to make progress in new markets."
Although it is now owned by the American automotive giant Ford, Land Rover is still based in Solihull, England.
Patriotic drivers may be pleased to hear that production on the new Freelander 2 model began at the company's car plant in Merseyside.
