Land Rover unveils details of programme to offset emissions

A new scheme has been launched that aims to reaffirm Land Rover's commitment towards reducing overall CO2 emissions, in news that may be of interest to environmentally-conscious motorists.

The programme is intended to ensure that all vehicle emissions generated by the automaker's manufacturing processes are offset by green practices.

On top of this, the British-based firm has also targeted offsetting the first 45,000 miles driven by all motorists who buy one of its vehicles.

The scheme will be overseen by high-profile environmentalists such as former government adviser Sir Crispin Tickell and Alan Knight, former director of environmental policy at homeware retailer B&Q.

Phil Popham, managing director of Land Rover, commented on the scheme.

"The Land Rover carbon offset programme is an industry-leading initiative and demonstrates our commitment to the environment, which includes investing in new technologies," he said.

Earlier this month, the automaker announced plans to introduce the new V8 diesel engine into its Range Rover models.

The engine is over 50 per cent more powerful than its six-cylinder diesel predecessor without compromising on fuel economy, the manufacturer claimed.
