Land Rover to invest in eco-friendly cars
Auto giant Land Rover has announced it is to invest £700 million in a programme to make its cars more eco-friendly.The firm will roll out a series of innovations across its range of vehicle offerings, beginning with stop-start engine systems in its Freelander model later this year.
Commenting on the initiative, Land Rover's managing director Phil Popham said: "Over the past 60 years, Land Rover has delivered real benefits worldwide; a quarter of all vehicles used by aid agencies around the world are Land Rovers but the challenge now is sustainability."
He went on to say that the firm still has to meet its customers' "go-anywhere" requirements, but must now do so while also addressing environmental concerns.
Mr Popham added that the programme of investment reflects the need for Land Rover to "raise its game" in the face of rising oil prices and the current economic problems.
Meanwhile, the Honda Jazz was recently described by its manufacturers as a potentially attractive prospect for motorists concerned about the environment and increasing cost of petrol.
