Land Rover supports eco-awareness record attempt
Land Rover owners who have the travel bug may be interested to hear that the British-based automaker is providing assistance for a world-record exploration attempt.Rob Gauntlett and James Hooper, both 19, are attempting to enter the record books as the first people to travel from the geo-magnetic north pole to the geo-magnetic south pole using only manpowered forms of travel.
And the attempt to realise their dreams will be supported by Land Rover, which is supplying a Defender 110 4x4 to carry equipment on an expedition roof rack and get them out of difficult situations courtesy of an electric winch.
The two explorers hope their efforts will raise awareness of global warming and the effects of migrations - an ambition that Land Rover's experiential marketing director Nicola Davies has commended.
"This expedition will hopefully inspire other young people to learn more about the issues affecting the planet today and we are thrilled to be a part of their journey," she said.
Earlier this month, the Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4 diesel automatic 4x4 was showcased at the Geneva motor show.
The 4x4 is set to arrive in the UK's Land Rover car dealerships in April 2007.
