Double success for Land Rover
Land Rover staff were today celebrating a double victory in Auto Express magazine's prestigious New Car Honours.The company's Freelander 2 model won the hotly contested best recreational 4x4 category, after Auto Express's road test editor Ollie Marriage described it as a "neatly designed and beautifully executed second-generation car".
Land Rover also impressed the judges over tougher terrain and the Discovery 3 was named best 4x4 off roader.
Phil Popham, Land Rover's managing director, was delighted to see the Freelander 2 and Discovery 3 beat off strong competition from other luxury brands to complete an awards double.
He said: "Achieving the best 4x4 off roader award for the Discovery 3 … is a testament to its class-leading diesel engine, its versatility and its all-round package."
Land Rover recently announced global sales of 108,874 for the first six months of 2007, the best half-year sales figures in the company's 59-year history.
