Land Rover takes 4x4 awards

Land Rover has announced that it took home three prizes from this year's 4x4 magazine awards.

Winning the overall title for its new Defender model, the manufacturer also received recognition for its Range Rover and Discovery 3 cars.

The cars received the honours in the Extreme Class, Luxury Class and Family Class categories, while the Freelander 2 was also well placed in the Soft-Roader class.

John Carroll, editor of 4x4 Magazine, said: "We think this is the most credible test of its kind ever undertaken by a 4x4 Magazine, and Land Rover’s success can't be underestimated in what is now a hugely competitive market sector."

Each of the Land Rover models compared "extremely well" against its competitors, he added, suggesting that the Defender is now the "King of the Off-roaders".

In related news, Land Rover recently won two awards at the Caravan Club's Towcar of the Year awards 2008.
