Kia name new model the cee'd
Kia has announced that its new small family car, first showcased in photo form at the British International Motor Show, is to be named the 'cee'd'.Set to make its international debut at the Mondial de L'Automobile in Paris on September 28th, the new cee'd, pronounced seed, has been named for its concept car predecessor.
The cee'd is the first of Kia's all European designed and engineered cars, catering specifically for European driving conditions.
Jean-Charles Lievens, senior vice president of Kia Motors Europe, commented: "Our new C-segment model marks a major turning point in Kia's history and is named cee'd for several reasons.
"cee'd is a short, dynamic and innovative name. It's unconventional, a name which breaks the automotive rules. A surprising name for a car destined to surprise our rivals and delight our customers. I'm sure the name will get people talking about Kia and also be easy to remember."
Mr Lievens said that the cee'd symbolises the fact that it was made in the European Community, while the ED indicates it was of European design. Cee'd also allegedly represents the seed for growth that Kia expects the car to ensure.
Neither sale prices nor a launch date have so far been announced for the UK, although Byung Kwang Jang, president of Kia Motors UK, said: "The C-segment is probably the most important part of the UK market and certainly the most hotly contested.
"It sets dramatically improved levels of quality, interior feel and design for Kia and indicates our determination to challenge the biggest names in Europe."
