KKia has announced that its revamped Sorento model is now available at European showrooms.
The Sorento has won a string of awards, including its second successive victory in the 4x4 category of the JD Power and Associates Customer Satisfaction survey, on top of the award for Towcar of the Year 2006 from The Caravan Club and the Best 4x4 in 2005 award from 4x4 magazine.
Buyers of the new Sorento will have two new engines to choose from, the revised 2.5-litre turbodiesel and the new 3.3-litre V6, both of which reportedly offer superior performance.
Modifications to the 2.5-litre turbodiesel have seen it increase its power by 21 per cent to 168bhp, with 25 per cent more torque. As a result, the Sorento's 0-60mph speed has been reduced by 2.6 seconds, while delivering fuel consumption of 35.8mpg. It also meets Euro IV emissions standards.
The 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine meanwhile will replace the 3.5-litre unit at the start of next year. The new model produces an additional 48bhp, reducing its 0-62mph time to 8.9 seconds.
However, the 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine will only be available as an automatic, while the 2.5-litre turbodiesel is available as both an automatic and with a five-speed manual gearbox.
Both models have also undergone suspension modifications to provide an improved balance of ride and handling.
KKia said that six turbodiesel versions of the new Sorento will be available, with the choice of XE, XS and XT trim grades.
However, prices have not yet been released, meaning that the basic model is expected to start at just £19,995.
