Kia Sorento gets five stars for safety
People looking to buy a new Kia Sorento next year will drive one of the safest SUVs on the road, it has been claimed.The vehicle has been given the top rating of five stars for safety following Euro NCAP crash tests.
It is the third new Kia vehicle to receive a five-star rating, following in the footsteps of the Kia cee'd in 2007 and the Kia Soul earlier this year.
The Kia Sorento scored 87 per cent for protection of adult occupants and 84 per cent for child protection.
Michael Cole, Kia Motors UK managing director, described the result as a "landmark achievement" for the manufacturer.
He added: "[The] new Sorento was designed and engineered to meet or surpass the expectations of European, North American and global consumers in every respect - including safety."
When the new Sorento was launched at the Seoul Motor Show earlier this year, Hyoung-Keun Lee, senior executive vice president and COO of Kia's International Business Division, said the vehicle will have broad appeal.
Mr Lee predicted the new Sorento "will soon be recognised as an exciting all-rounder" and that global sales should reach 140,000 in 2010.
