The new 2006 Kia Sedona has been awarded a leading safety award in the United States.
The vehicle, also known as Carnival, has been selected as the Gold Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) after scoring well on frontal, side and rear impact crash tests.
The popular minivan was the only one of eight different models tested by the IIHS to receive high ratings across the board.
Institute president Adrian Lund commented: "Other minivans have earned good front and side ratings, but they haven't achieved a satisfactory level of rear crash protection. The Sedona stands out as the first to get a clean sweep of good ratings across the board."
The Sedona has also been granted a five star safety rating by the US Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Equipped with standard active head restraints, six standard airbags electronic stability control (ESC) and ABS with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), the new look Sedona has won high praise for its safety features.
The Subaru Impreza was the strongest performing small car in the latest IIHS tests, becoming only the second small car to receive the Gold Top Safety Pick award.
