Jaguar has announced that it has topped the Luxury Car category at the Fleet Excellence Awards.
The company said that the "sophisticated styling and lightweight all-aluminium construction" of XJ had proved a big hit in Britain, prompting readers of Fleet Week and Fleet Management magazines to vote it top luxury model.
The luxury carmaker revealed that the award is its first for 2006, with the XJ consistently commanding around half of all petrol sector sales and almost a third of premium F-sector sales.
The poll of 32,000 readers by the two magazines covered the decision makers behind more than half of all the new cars sold in Britain each year.
Guy Bird, editor of Fleet Management magazine, commented: "The Jaguar XJ oozes feel-good factor, and the new 2.7 V6 especially makes good business sense." Mr Bird praised the fuel economy offered by the XJ compared with other premium car models available in the UK.
Welcoming the award, Robert Aitken, Jaguar UK corporate operations manager, said: "The introduction of the XJ TDVi Diesel derivative last year means that Jaguar is now able to compete head on with other luxury brands in this extremely competitive sector.
With its lowest BIK tax rates, coupled with best-in-class levels of noise reduction and refinement, the XJ TDVi is a deserving winner and we look forward to its first full year in the market place."
The new XJ 2.7 TDVi costs from £43,995 and comes in 3.0, 3.5 and 4.2 litre petrol versions.
