The Hyundai Automotive Group has announced that its vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, as the car maker climbs up the global table of manufacturers.
The company has overtaken Nissan with the largest percentage gain of any motor manufacturer to become the sixth largest carmaker in the world.
Hyundai and its subsidiary KKia Motors witnessed a steep 11.6 per cent jump in global sales last year to 3,715,096 units, according to the survey by Detroit-based Automotive News.
The South Korean company reported particularly strong 2005 sales in China, India and Russia, while sales grew steadily in the more established markets of North America, Europe and Australia, Auto Web reports.
Hyundai has announced plans to launch two new models every year in India and the company raked in the top three of the 2006 JD Power and Associates Initial Quality Study for the first time ever, after luxury brands Porsche and Lexus, and first in the mainstream brands category.
The world's top automaker for 2005 was General Motors, with sales of 8,381,805 units, followed by Toyota (8,120,000), Ford (6,208,700), Volkswagen (5,242,793) and DaimlerChrysler (4,854,700 units), according to the Auto Express report.
