New engine details unveiled by Hyundai

New information on Hyundai's R-Engine, described by the manufacturer as its newest diesel "powerplant", has been made available.

The company explains the engine is available in two sizes - 2.0 and 2.2-litre - and benefits from a third-generation common rail system with piezo-electric injectors which allow fuel to be delivered at 1,800-bar for an "unprecedented" level of control and accuracy.

In addition, it also features an electronic variable geometry turbocharger, as well as an advanced engine control unit.

Commenting on the new piece of hardware, Dr Hyun-Soon Lee, president of the corporate research and development division of Hyundai, states diesels are becoming more fuel-efficient all the time and there is increasing demand for diesel powerplants across the globe.

"R proves Hyundai's diesel development capabilities really are world-class," he adds.

In recent weeks, the manufacturer said its i800 MPV is the "perfect choice" for people who enjoy surfing due to its 815-litre capacity, even when loaded with eight adults.
