Hyundai-Kia 'is producing cars to challenge Volkswagen and Ford'
People considering buying a new car may want to check out a few models produced by the Hyundai-Kia group after the company was named automotive manufacturer of the year.Autocar said the firm was a worthy winner as it had demonstrated "mind-blowing" ambition.
Nam-Yong Kim, president of Hyundai-Kia's European research and development centre in Germany, accepted the award at a ceremony at London's Horticultural Halls in Westminster.
He expressed his delight at receiving the honour and said the recognition would spur his company on to even greater heights.
Meanwhile, Autocar's editor, Chris Hallet, said Hyundai-Kia deserved the award as it had achieved a great deal in a short space of time.
"They challenged the VW Golf and the Ford Focus head on, building cars that looked as good and worked as well," he stated.
Earlier this month, Hyundai's first European car plant began mass production in the Czech Republic.
