Hyundai has released the name of the upper midsize crossover for its 2007 range.
Continuing the Korean manufacturer's tradition of geographic naming the all-new 2007 crossover is to be called the Veracruz, named for the serene beaches and warm waters of Mexico's grandest port.
The Veracruz has been designed to rival the Nissan Murano, Lexus RX350, Subaru B9 Tribeca and the Honda Pilot.
However, the Veracruz is believed to be larger than the Honda Pilot and boasts a greater cargo volume than the full-size Mercedes-Benz GL, in addition to premium features that guarantee a car-like ride.
Fitted with a standard 3.8-litre V6 engine with six-speed automatic gearbox, the Veracruz also features a number of safety refinements.
These include standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC), standard side-airbags, side-curtain airbags for all three rows of passengers and all-wheel drive.
It is also expected to feature the Hyundai Hideaway offering greater flexibility for passengers as standard.
Meanwhile, Hyundai's Santa Fe model has performed well in the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) tests, achieving a 'good' rating for structure/safety cage, injury measures, and restraint/dummy kinematics after a 40 mph frontal offset crash test.
Reclassified by the IIHS as a midsize SUV, the Santa Fe includes a number of new safety measures such as anti-lock brakes, ESC, front seat-mounted torso airbags, head curtain airbags for all passengers and six standard airbags.
