In a bid to cash in on the growing "soft roader" market in Europe, Hyundai has unveiled its latest offering catering for the supermini driver.
Intended as a rival to the Volkswagen Polo Dune and Citroen C3 XTR in the supermini sector, the new Hyundai Getz Cross is a meatier version of Hyundai's Getz subcompact.
Featuring higher suspension, SUV-style body with extended wheel arches, large alloy wheels, silver coloured door mirrors and roof rails, the Getz Cross to all intents and purposes looks like a 4x4.
However, the Getz Cross is front-wheel drive and in terms of performance is intended for urban driving, rather than burning the speed limit on the motorway, powered as it is by the 1.5-liter CRTD diesel model.
Hyundai said that the Getz Cross has been designed exclusively for the Scandinavian market, although other international Hyundai distributors are understood to be considering offering the model.
However, the firm does not believe there is sufficient demand to market the model in the UK.
The launch comes just days after Hyundai launched its second generation of Santa Fe, featuring four-wheel-drive and improvements to size, seating capacity, safety, room and refinement.
