Hyundai is set to launch a revised version of its popular Accent range in the New Year – which can only be good news for car drivers.

The Accent, which shares its chassis build with Kia's Rio, is a sporty alternative to the standard compact family hatch at a supermini price.

New tricks up the sleeve of the 2006 Accent include impressive handling specifications and plenty of space inside the redesigned cabin.

Although largely identical to Kia's Rio inside, this is no bad thing as the modern features and lines as well as an abundance of space gives the driver a thoroughly enjoyable ride.

Hyundai's latest 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine powers the new Accent, giving is more than 45mpg in everyday driving, according to Auto Express.

Other petrol units include a 1.4 and 1.6-litre versions, and will be available in the three-door UK version next year.

Although Hyundai is currently keeping the price of the new Accent to itself, indications are it could be a quite reasonable price for the sporty run-around.

The new Accent is due to be launched in the UK next summer.
