Audi launches greener model

Audi launches greener modelMotorists keen to find a car which offers comprehensive performance in addition to a low rate of carbon emissions may be interested in details of a model on offer from Audi.

Available to order last week, the firm's new version of the A3 1.6 TDI has a CO2 output of just 99g per km.

However, with a number of specifications on offer, consumers keen on having a car with such an emissions output will have to take the Standard version, which includes features such as manual air conditioning, electric front windows and remote central locking.

In addition, the new vehicle includes 15-inch alloy wheels and a Chorus radio with single CD player as standard.

Other versions of the car - which consist of the SE, Sport and S line specifications and all Sportback models - offer a 109g/km carbon output, although Audi points out that this rate in itself is "class-leading".

The improvements on offer with the new version are attributed to a reduced ride height and a number of revisions made to the vehicle's under-body in order to reduce aerodynamic drag, with final drive ratio for the standard five-speed manual transmission also modified.

Drivers keen on green motors may also be interested to hear the Audi model an utilises engine start-stop and energy recuperation system, which looks to conserve fuel by cutting engine power when it is not used.

The vehicle can go from zero to 62 miles per hour (mph) in 11.4 seconds and can go as fast as 121 mph depending on conditions.

Prices for the Audi A31.6 TDI start at £18,005 on the road, Britons currently on the search for a green car could be interested to hear.

Meanwhile, recent research from The Co-operative Bank has revealed green driving has surged in popularity over the past decade, as an estimated £3 million was spent on eco-friendly cars in 1998. Ten years later however, this figure surged to some £282 million.
