Parking illegally could prove costly
Motorists who get a great deal on any car from a Ford to a Fiat could end up wasting some of the money they saved by parking in the wrong place. The government has revealed local authorities in England will soon be able to fine drivers who leave cars double-parked or next to dropped kerbs.
Due to be introduced next month, the powers will be enforceable regardless of whether or not there are signs or road markings highlighting the fact pulling up in those places is prohibited.
Transport minister Paul Clark explained: "Dropped kerbs are there to help wheelchair users and those with powered mobility vehicles or prams get around easily and safely."
He added double parking is dangerous as it creates a potential hazard for other road users.
Mr Clark said motorists should be aware of such restrictions as they are laid out in the Highway Code.
Earlier this month, the government launched a campaign warning drivers about the potential consequences of texting while in control of a vehicle.
