New Fords 'alert drivers to tyre pressure'
The latest vehicles from automobile manufacturer Ford alert motorists to their tyre pressure while they drive.According to the firm, the automated system monitors when a tyre is deflating, giving motorists in-car warnings in order to get them to assess the situation.
The Deflation Detection System is an optional extra with the new Ford Focus and Ford Kuga and, according to wheel and tyre engineer Michael Kremer, "provide[s] an important additional safety measure".
He said: "Keeping your tyres correctly inflated can also reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, so these systems can help provide cost and environmental benefits too."
A similar system, the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, is also employed in Ford Mondeos, S-MAX vehicles and Galaxy cars and is more suitable for larger vehicles.
This comes as research from TyreSafe has found that 12 per cent of cars and vans on roads in Britain have at least one defective tyre.
