Ford's deal 'could improve competitiveness'
Ford's redundancy packages should be accepted by its workers, according to an automotive analyst, potentially meaning the car manufacturer can offer improved competitiveness when launching new models. This week, Ford made a voluntary redundancy offer of $140,000 (£75,000) to all of its workers in the US.
Motor consultant Karl Ludvigsen, former vice president of Ford Europe, has told BBC Radio Five Live's Wake up to Money programme that the motor group needs to halve its American workforce.
And Mr Ludvigsen affirmed his belief that the recent cash offer will be accepted by Ford's workers.
"The unions are saying it looks like a good package," he said.
"There are other job opportunities around - people are realising that - and I think this package will get the job done."
This week, Ford announced price revisions throughout its Focus range.
For instance, the higher-end Focus Titanium model is set for a £380 price drop as Ford attempts to make the brand more attractive to motorists.
