Ford S-Max voted Best Big Car

The Ford S-Max has been voted Best Big Car at the BBC Top Gear Awards 2006, with the judging panel claiming that its appeal stretches beyond the traditional audience of multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs).

Earlier this year, the Ford car was awarded the overall title of Car of the Year at the Scottish Car of the Year awards and it has now received independent recognition from another automotive review panel.

Explaining the reasons behind the choice, the judging panel described the S-Max as "an MPV via the stealth route".

Moreover, it was said that the vehicle is "a futuristic wedge of sports-flavoured family car that in short provides a welcome refuge for all those who risk feeling emasculated by MPV ownership".

Another feature that may attract some motorists to the S-Max is that it comes fully equipped with a Bluetooth call diversion device.

When activated, all calls to a Bluetooth-enabled handset will be automatically re-routed so that the conversation takes place through the vehicle's speakers.

Consequently, the hands-free phone equipment can enable drivers to have a conversation without breaking the law by using a handset.
